Stop the Super Council
Protect our Community from Portsmouth Merger
A multi-billion-pound restructure that risks handing control of our schools, transport and planning to a distant authority.

What is the Super Council?
The Labour Government, supported by local Liberal Democrats, have put forward a plan to abolish all local councils, and Hampshire County Council, and create five new super councils.
That means moving our communities into an expanded Portsmouth super authority.
This plan would fundamentally redraw where our communities belong and would leave rural communities ignored by Portsmouth Labour and Liberal Democrats.
What the merger means for you
Thousands of new developments...
Portsmouth City Council has built only a fraction of its 2020–2040 housing target
Planning overridden
Local committees replaced. High-density development forced onto villages and green belt.
Schools & services
Education, social care and highways restructured under a distant urban authority.
Your voice, diluted
Representation for rural and semi-rural communities will be substantially reduced. Our voices will count for less, and our priorities more easily ignored.
Local investment, undermined
Tax revenue pooled centrally. Rural roads, village amenities and the character that protects what your area is worth — deprioritised.

This is Hampshire.
Not Portsmouth.
Our schools, services, transport links and community ties are rooted here. Forcing that change from the top down is completely out of step with what residents are saying.
